ICT board president, Ronnaritthichai Kanket said the seminar was set up to support the policy of E-government indicated by the current government to provide efficient services for the people.
This involves upgrading the computer skills of those in the government as well as providing them the know how on e-government operation.
Both Koh Samui and Koh Phangan were the target of the project, he says.
The information and communication technology, according to Ronnaritthichai, is a key factor in connecting people to get service and information from governmental units in a convenient, modern and easy way.
Once implemented, the adoption of ICT will make public service delivery transparent, fair, speedy and economical thereby minimizing corruption and enhancing efficient and effective governance.
The technology can be used to root out the problems and obstacles with regards to providing public service, he said.
A convenient access to service and information of local government units would be very useful and effective to the people who live on the islands, aside from the advantage of the new system to improve the quality of life for the residents. The civic groups that had joined the seminar ranged from civil servants, state entrepreneurs, hotel association, Samui and Phangan district offices and superintendents.
